My Favorite Herbs & Supplements for Hormone Health

While nothing can replace nutritious food, there have been plenty of supplements that I have found helpful in healing my hormones and building up my immune system. I use the term ‘supplement’ lightly. Most of the items I’m using are tinctures or capsules filled with herbs, plants, flowers, minerals or vitamins. In my eyes- the closer to nature we can be, the better!

For more information on supplements you may need that are outside of the herbalist realm, I’ve included links to my favorite books on hormones which include amazing information on what can help you based on your condition. As always, check with a doctor before incorporating into your daily regimen.

Olivia is a wealth of knowledge and her supplements were made for women with deep research tied to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and herbology. I am obsessed with all of her products, but this is what I use for my hormonal health from her line.

  • Not Your Average Probiotic: if you experience PMS symptoms more often than just right before your period, you want to focus on gut health! This formula helps with getting more ‘regular’, balances the microbiome, reduces gas and bloating- all important things associated with your hormones

  • Liver Juice: everything in our hormonal health ties back to liver function. In today’s world no matter how ‘healthy’ we are, our liver needs help! It is constantly encountering toxins from the air, our cosmetics, the food we eat or drink, etc. It is working HARD! According to TCM it is the organ that governs our menstrual cycle which again means it needs our help. I assist my liver daily by taking this 2-3x a day with lemon water. It’s a GOD SEND and non-negotiable. When I used to drink alcohol this was helpful for my hangover days where I could feel my liver hurting.

  • The Connection Collection: this is her newest line of supplements in the store and I wasn’t sure that I had a need for it because it's supposed to be for opening your heart with the help of Rose. But I listened to Olivia’s podcast on the plant here, and she spoke about how the products in this collection helps with cramps, moving blood, and keeping the internal flow moving (this could help with cramps!) I began using this line recently and really enjoy it especially in my luteal phase!

  • Mane Magic: marketed as a product to promote hair growth (which could be a hormonal imbalance/postpartum side effect!) but this tincture also promotes blood flow which is important as to prevent stagnation meaning less PMS or cramps. I take this 1x/day in water.

  • Adrenal Fatigue: a huge disruptor to hormones is stress. If you find yourself in flight or fight mode, which increases cortisol in your body, then definitely try this! I was taking this when our dog got run over (and lived thank GOD) and I was so happy that it was a source of stabilization for my body during that stressful time.

  • Zinc Plus: zinc helps follicles in the ovaries mature each month, improves PCOS related issues, supports thyroid hormone production and even helps lessen period pains. In addition I credit THIS supplement for not getting sick the past two years besides a mild cold.

  • Flow Balance: I take this supplement religiously 3x a day, just a big drop on my tongue! It contains a ton of herbs that help mitigate PMS symptoms and promote hormone balance. Especially important if you experience excess estrogen symptoms (cramps, mood swings, tender breasts etc).

  • Natal Nourish: not just for those that want to have babies, this formula also nourishes the uteru and supports healthy fertility (which is important regardless of conceiving). After you use Flow Balance for a few months, you can also use this formula.
