My 21 Day Elimination Reset (+meal plan)

Backstory: I first want to quickly explain my history with this 21 Day Elimination reset. In my 8 years as a coach, I have done this cleanse/reset, whatever you want to call it 4x. Every time I've gotten different variations of results, but always something transformative happens. I decided to do this program NOW because #1-I get married June 19 2020 and I want to feel confident in my wedding dress. I'm not about quick fixes but this is a great kickstart to healthier habits, decreased inflammation and flawless skin. #2-I realize now after completing it, just how bad my snacking and alcohol consumption was. It was adding up: the apres ski, the meals out, the cookies after skiing. I needed to tighten up the habits. #3-I have a tickborne illness, back pain since June, and just all around low energy at times. I wanted to push the reset button and feel good again. Typing this I'm a few days past the end of the cleanse and I can say: mission accomplished.

WHAT: This reset is a 21 day nutritional based cleanse. There is no starving. There is no juicing. Over the course of 21 days you eliminate animal protein, dairy, and gluten. By week 2 and 3 you are eating a plant based diet. In addition to the foods you're eating, you will take supplements that act as a gentle colon cleanse (don't worry you won't be running to the bathroom!). No alcohol, no caffeine (this one was hard because I had to give up me beloved pre workout). By the end of 21 days you 'should' expect better digestion, more energy, better sleep and feel like you have a hold on good eating habits (obviously results are different for everyone, but these are the most common).

Info on the supplements you take:

  • Power Greens. A combination of 6 powerful greens, including kale, matcha, cucumber, celery, spinach and chlorella.*

  • Optimize. A proprietary enzyme blend and added camu-camu to get your body ready to absorb the nutrients you put in it*

  • Soothe. Combines two incredible botanicals: aloe vera and turmeric, which have been traditionally used to support digestive health and the calms the body's oxidative stress.*

  • Mineralize. Formulated with pink Himalayan salt, which adds natural minerals needed by the body. You'll add this to your water daily*

  • Detox. Formulated with key ingredients including Chia, Flax and Turmeric, traditionally used to help support the body's natural detoxification processes and healthy liver function.*

  • Revitalize. Probiotics and prebiotics which help support beneficial flora in the digestive tract.*

You'll also receive what I like to call the 'bible'. It contains step by step instructions on what meals to cook which days (I'll go over my special way of doing this later!), when to take the supplements, how to prepare, recipes, what to expect and what to do AFTER your cleanse.

Working out is limited to low impact/no workouts. Your body on the inside is doing a workout and cleansing, so its best to have no strenuous exercises planned. I was still able to do my at home barre program, because it offered modifiers and it's all low impact.

WHO THIS IS FOR:

While I think that this cleanse could benefit everyone, I know that it takes a certain person, someone who is determined for change.

This program is perfect for people who:

  • are open and willing to do things they've never done before in order to have something they've never had or felt before

  • are willing to carve out time to cook

  • have a can-do attitude

  • want better sleep

  • want to lose weight

  • need to get a better grip on their habits

  • don't have any 'big' social events on their calendar (weddings, vacations etc)

  • may have health concerns and want to try and fix their habits before going for meds (but nothing is guaranteed!)

  • need to improve their digestion

I don't recommend this program if you:

  • are breastfeeding

  • are not willing to spend 1-3 hours meal prepping 2x during the week

  • have a negative attitude

  • make excuses

  • are a picky eater, not willing to try new foods

As always, check with your doctor for any concerns and before starting this if you're worried.

THE FOOD:

The meals are delicious! No, seriously I was hesitant for some of the recipe combos you see in the 'bible'. But I wouldn't do this cleanse 4x if it weren't delicious AND got me results. Now here's the part where I custom tailor it (if you're interested in this program and would like me to coach you through it with my specific meal plan, click here). The meal plan is amazing and has variety, maybe too much variety. When I did this cleanse the first time, I bought everything the plan told me to get (they give you a shopping list). But what I found was that I was wasting and spending a LOT of money. Girl, I'm on a budget and I have NEVER had time for onesie twosie food items that will go to waste. So my goal this 4th time around was to: choose a variety of recipes, repeat them, save money, and still get results. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Another tweak I did was incorporate Medical Medium thyroid healing smoothie & heavy metal detox smoothie. Most of the breakfasts in this reset call for fruit, so I just blended mine with ingredients that all go with this cleanse. Super easy to do each day!

In addition to the optimize that the cleanse has you take (to make your body ready to absorb the food youre about to eat), I used Organic Olivia's Digestive Juice 15 min before meals as well. This sends signals to your brain to produce juices needed to digest the food you're about to eat. The combo of both left me feeling so 'regular' and like I wasn't bloated after every meal I ate.

Here is my quick rundown of each week and the meals I would rotate. I never had too much left over, I was able to reuse a lot of pantry items, and I didn't break the bank. The most I spent was about $85ish one week.

Week 1:

  • Breakfast: heavy metal detox smoothie

  • Lunch: (choose one from each) Nori rolls/southwest tacos/tempeh w/rice AND cucumber tomato salad/veggie stir fry

  • Snack: roasted root medley or edamame

  • Dinner: (choose one) lentil lime salad/miso soup/zucchini cashew soup AND microgreen salad

Week 2:

  • Breakfast: thyroid healing smoothie

  • Lunch:(choose one from each) pinto beans and rice/squash with tahini/hearty vegetable soup AND stir fry/sweet potato bisque

  • Snack: fruit

  • Dinner: (pick one) miso soup/roasted asparagus/edamame & corn succotash AND microgreen salad

Week 3:

  • Breakfast: heavy metal detox smoothie

  • Lunch: (pick one from each) sweet potato/jicama and avocado/curry cauliflower AND miso hearty vegetable soup

  • Snack: cucumber tomato salad

  • Dinner: (pick one) cauliflower stir fry/root vegetables/tempeh and avocado AND microgreen salad

As you can see I chose a few meal options for lunch and dinner and just rotated them day by day! Easy peasy and made this cleanse go by SO fast. Literally could not believe day 21 already happened.

THE RESULTS:

Okay so fun fact about living in a cabin: the lighting is always dark/different depending on time of day, and having a little spray tan changes that all too LOL. Minus the coloring, you can see the decrease in bloat in my body. No, I'm not pushing it out on the left. No, I'm not sucking it in on the right. I lost 9.5 inches. I do not weigh myself, but the past times I've completed this cleanse, I've always lost about 10lbs (which is def bloat, wine and cookies for me!). All those numbers are fine and dandy but let me tell you what I'm most excited about. I feel CONFIDENT! I am able to wear things and they don't feel snug. I have more energy through out the day. I sleep well! I went to my first wedding dress fitting and felt so excited about how I will look on my big day. Even better is that I'm more conscious of my choices.

WHAT'S NEXT?:

Something I'm really working on is self sabotage. My tendency is to follow a plan like this, feel good, and then self sabotage by going back to old habits. My goal for the post reset is to: slow things down by asking 'how will this make me feel?', 'is this worth it?', 'will I regret this 20 min later?'. I work well off of structure as well so I'm doing the cleanse a bit in reverse and adding in grains and beans to see how my body responds to it (because there is such a thing as having an intolerance to healthy foods!). I am stoked to add back in my preworkout, which honestly was the only thing I missed MOST during my cleanse. It's such a staple in my morning routine and gives me the extra boost needed for my workouts! I'm also giving up booze for lent, which gives me a reason to keep going with less booze leading up to wedding stuff, but the option to kick back with a glass of vino on Sunday's if I so choose to. On the other end of the spectrum, I'm trying not to plan or set too many restrictions on myself too far out, because that backfires as well.

CONCLUSION:

I love this cleanse. I'm going to make it a point to do it annually (ideally semi-annually) because I know it works and resets every habit I have. This is not the easiest program, but its worth it. If you'd like to try it yourself, and have me coach you personally-giving you all the tips and tricks I've learned from doing this multiple times, then please shoot me an email here. I'd love to help in any way possible so that you too, can feel this level of confidence.
